Gates of Ishtar have announced Murder The Light, their fourth album, for 21 January 2027 on The Circle Music. Pre-orders are open and a first song is promised in the coming weeks.
The gap is the story. The Swedish band formed in Lulea in 1994 out of a group called Disrupted, released A Bloodred Path in 1996, The Dawn of Flames in 1997 and At Dusk and Forever in 1998, and then stopped. Three albums in three years, then twenty nine with nothing.
Eight tracks are listed: In Fires Forged, Ghosts, Murder The Light, Mother North, Let Go Of My Burden, Dawn Of Time, Nevermore and Still Life.
Melodic death metal from northern Sweden in the late nineties is a narrow and much loved corner, and the bands that defined it mostly did not come back. This one is trying, with the artwork and the running order out before a note of it.
