Godflesh release Decay tomorrow, 25 September, through Relapse Records.
Six tracks, and the weight sits at both ends. Master and Slave, the song Relapse put out first, opens the record at 8:46. Consume Me closes it at 11:38. Between them are Living/Ending, Feral Colony, Fear of Man and Fodder, none of them past six minutes. The whole record lands just under forty two.
It is the eleventh album under the name, counting from Streetcleaner in 1989, and the first since A World Lit Only by Dub last year. Purge, in 2023, and Post Self, in 2017, are the two before that.
Justin Broadrick and G.C. Green have been the entire band since 1988, apart from the seven years the project was stopped between 2002 and 2009. Broadrick sings, plays guitar and programmes the drums; Green plays bass. That arrangement, two men and a machine, is the reason the band keeps turning up in the history of industrial extreme metal whenever anyone writes it down.
