Green Lung have released Necropolitan, their fourth album, through Nuclear Blast Records. It comes with a visualiser for the opening track, "Dance to the Grave".
The album takes its title from the seven garden cemeteries, the necropoli, built around London in the Victorian era. The band describe it as a portrait of the triumph of death and nature over human ambition, and as a celebration of the folklore, occult history and heavy music of London, the city where they began.
According to the band's announcement, "Dance to the Grave" is a memento mori aimed at the alliance between far-right politics and the tech industry in the face of the climate crisis. For the visualiser they commissioned Joseph Brett of Jackdaw Films to animate the artwork of Richard Wells as their own danse macabre.
This week the band are signing records in UK stores: Rough Trade East in London on 11 September, HMV Manchester on 12 September, HMV Vault in Birmingham on 13 September and Rough Trade Bristol on 14 September.
In December they take the Dance to the Grave Tour through Europe with High On Fire as special guests and Gnome in support. It opens at Trix in Antwerp on 3 December and includes the Bataclan in Paris on 14 December and the Roundhouse in London on 16 December. The Bristol show on 17 December is already sold out.
