Jamey Jasta has confirmed that Hatebreed have finished re-recording Under The Knife, the EP they put out in 1996, and that a documentary about the band's early years may be attached to the release.
Re-recordings are usually about ownership. A band that does not control its first masters can cut them again and own the new ones, and thirty years is long enough for those contracts to have become a problem worth solving. Larry Dwyer Jr, who played guitar on the original, took part in the sessions, which were rumoured in February and are now confirmed.
What Jasta is more interested in is the paperwork around it. "I just went through storage rooms full of stuff and found a flyer for a show that was Fear, Murphy's Law, Hatebreed, 25 Ta Life and One 4 One," he told Kerrang. One flyer, five bands, and a date that puts his own at fourth on the bill.
"We'll probably figure out a release where maybe we include a documentary," he said. There is no date for either.
Their ninth album, Fatal Paradox, arrives on 6 November, so this is a plan for after that.
