I Am Your God have recorded Farewell, and the date they chose to release it is the story. Their version of the song went out on 1 October through Out Of Line Music, twenty one years to the day after Sentenced played their last show at Club Teatria in Oulu, on 1 October 2005.
Farewell closes The Funeral Album, which was Sentenced's last record, released the same year. The choice came from the singer, Julius Vetamajarvi. "Sentenced is one of the bands that has always been there for many of us," the band said. "Their super melodic and melancholic world combined with dark humour is something totally unique, as well as the story of the band with their theatrical and permanent ending." The release date, they said, was to respect the memory of a band they describe as deceased rather than split up.
It is the fourth single from Foregods, an EP of five covers out on 20 November, with one song from each of five bands the group traces itself back to: Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Sentenced, Dissection and Iron Maiden. Each member picked one, which is why Sentenced sits on a tracklist beside Iron Maiden.
I Am Your God come from Rovaniemi, in Finnish Lapland, formed in 2018, and have three albums behind them. Vetamajarvi's own band plays melodic death metal with metalcore in it, which is some distance from the gothic weight of the song he picked.
