Insomnium have released "Arch of the Sky", the third single from Netherworlds, which arrives on 16 October.
Ville Friman, who plays guitar and sings the clean parts, set out both what the song does and where it came from. "'Arch of the Sky' introduces a proggier side of the Netherworlds, featuring time signature changes and Insomnium's trademark blend of mellow passages and heavier sections. Lyrically, the song is inspired by Sami mythology, in which celestial hunters pursue a deer across the arch of the sky in perpetual motion. According to the legend, if the deer were ever caught, the world would come to an end as the roof of the sky collapsed."
The video, by Patric Ullaeus for rEvolver, cuts band performance against traditional animation telling that story. The single cover is by Travis Smith.
The album is being issued as a limited deluxe 2CD artbook, a standard CD, and several gatefold double vinyl editions, including a pearlescent deep blue pressing of 600 and two band-exclusive runs of 500 each.
