Insomnium have put out a video for "The Hour Grows Late", from Netherworlds, with three members of Amorphis on the song: Tomi Joutsen, Tomi Koivusaari and Santeri Kallio.
"'The Hour Grows Late' falls on the more epic side of the Insomnium spectrum, perhaps alongside classics like 'Pale Morning Star' and 'Godforsaken'," guitarist Markus Vanhala said. "It's a longer adventure in music, venturing a little further into the progressive dark side of the album's moon."
He describes the guest list as two ideas arriving at the same moment. He had wanted Kallio for a synth solo in the chaotic middle section, and producer Miiro Varjus suggested asking both Tomis to sing on that same song. "The fact that these two ideas came together felt like such perfect synchronicity that we simply couldn't not make it happen," Vanhala said, and added that he was particularly glad to hear Koivusaari growling again.
Jari Heino directed it. The white ribbons running through the video are karsikko, the Finnish and Karelian memorial trees that stood as a boundary between the living and the dead: a mark was cut into a chosen tree during a funeral procession, and ribbons and strips of clothing were hung on ancestral trees so the dead would rest.
The premiere lands as the Finnish dates begin. North America follows in November and Europe in January, with Amorphis on those legs.
