Dave Mustaine sat down with Kory Grow of Rolling Stone at the Kaufman Music Center in New York on 8 September for a live Q&A about his memoir In My Darkest Hour, and the audio of the whole thing is now out.
On Megadeth's farewell tour, which is still running: "It's bittersweet. It doesn't feel great, I can tell you that much. There's times when we take the stairs in the back, and walking up the stairs, I keep saying the same thing I've said every night when I go up the stairs. And it's like a private thing. I just say, 'It's your stage.' And I go up there and I do my job. And that's it. I go out and do my job, the gift that God's given me."
Asked whether anything is left in the vault: "There's bits and parts, pieces and little stuff like that. There's a couple of completed songs from the last album with James and Teemu and Dirk that we did not release yet. I think those were supposed to be bonus tracks for the label or something."
He is 65 and has said he is dealing with a hand condition that badly affects his playing, which is the reason the tour is a farewell at all. On what retirement looks like, he expects to stay involved in music in some form, even if it is only listening.
