Jackson have announced The Legend Series, four limited edition instruments copied from guitars and a bass originally built for four specific people: Randy Rhoads, Scott Ian of Anthrax, David Ellefson of Megadeth and Marty Friedman.

The naming tells the story of the company. There is a Randy Rhoads CD1, and separately a Scott Ian Rhoads RR22, because the shape Rhoads asked for in 1980 became a model other people then ordered, which is how a one off custom turns into a product line and then into a signature for someone else.

Friedman gets a Kelly KE-1, Ellefson a CB V Concert Bass. All four are limited runs and all four are reconstructions rather than new designs, which is a reasonable read of what the market wants from a guitar brand whose whole reputation was built between 1980 and 1992.

Rhoads played his with Quiet Riot and then with Ozzy Osbourne, and died in 1982. His is the only one of the four signatures whose owner never saw it.
