Jewel Throne have signed to Wormholedeath, and the Italian label will release The Obsidian Sculptor, a five track EP, on 27 November. The title track is out as the first piece of it.
"We are proud to announce the signing with Italy's WormHoleDeath label," the band said. "We are looking forward to working with them, and this is a major step forward after our debut album release back in 2024."
That phrase, a major step forward, is doing a lot of quiet work. The band formed in Finland in 2019, put out a run of EPs, and reached Blood Vultures in October 2024 with nobody signing the cheques. An independent label with distribution is not a fortune, but for a thrash band two years past its first album it is the difference between a record that reaches a scene and one that reaches a mailing list.
The EP is written the way the band have always worked: Mika Sallanen writes most of the music from the bass, Jesse Huovinen writes most of the words, Toni Koskinen contributes songs, and all four of them, Jouni Kurikka included, arrange. That line-up has not changed since 2020, which in this part of the scene is worth more than the contract.
