Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has said that "Arsenal", the song the band released this week, will not appear on their next album and does not represent the record they are working on.

Answering a fan in the comments of an Instagram post that has since been deleted, Root wrote that "Arsenal" was "a tune we could quickly get out there while we work on the rest of the record", and that it is "not really representative of the other tunes". Asked directly whether it would be on the album, he answered no, calling it one they could finish sooner in order to put something out.

The song is the band's first new music in more than three years and their first since the line-up changes that saw Craig Jones and Sid Wilson depart and Eloy Casagrande arrive on drums. Reaction has been divided, with part of the audience objecting to the chorus.
