KantalaSyndrooma have released Aavan suon tuolle puolen, their first album, through Inverse Records.

The name is new and the people are not. Lyijykomppania, one of the founding acts of Finnish melancholic metal, ended in 2022 when Esa Moilanen, their founding drummer, died. The musicians who had passed through that band over the years regrouped the following year under this name, and they are careful about what that makes them. It is not a tribute act, they say, although the old songs turn up at concerts.

Petri Lindström writes most of it and describes the record in terms that fit the music: built on an old and proven foundation, with new material added while respecting the tradition. A few more shades of grey have gone into the palette, he says, but they still refuse to pick up any coloured pencils.

The title translates as beyond the vast marsh. Tero Vuorinen sings and plays guitar alongside Lindström, Arto Alaluusua plays bass and Petteri Virtanen drums. A second release is already being written, and the band have not decided yet whether it becomes an album or an EP.
