King Buffalo have released Ether on the Dark Side, the last song out of Doomsayer before the album arrives on 4 December.
Scott Donaldson says it began as a jam and grew into one of the longer tracks, and that the pacing and the groove put him in mind of a John Carpenter soundtrack. That is a precise comparison rather than a flattering one: Carpenter's scores work by repetition and patience, which is also how this band builds everything.
The record came out of the same process on a larger scale. Sean Roa, who produced and mixed it, says they went into the new studio in early 2026 with no end goal and played until something spoke to them, and that what has happened to them since the last album ended up in the lyrics.
His own description of the result is the useful one: the most upfront, direct and riff driven work they have done.
They built the studio first, and four years have passed since Regenerator.
