King Kraken released Shadows Fall on 18 September, their third single of the year, and it is about getting lost in a wood and meeting something that means you harm.
The found footage horror film is the reference, The Blair Witch Project in particular, and the band turned that into a structural decision rather than a mood. “The idea for this track was to flip the melodic structure by having more melody in the verses and a gritty aggressive chorus,” they say. “Like a journey where everything starts fine but the deeper you go the darker it gets.” Their own description of the result is that it drags you around rather than holding your hand.
Romesh Dodangoda and Tom Cory engineered it. The four of them are from South Wales and formed in 2018; MCLXXX came out in 2023 and March of the Gods in 2025.
