Konvent have put out the title track of Firesky, the second song from an album dated 6 November on Napalm Records, and this one arrives with both a guest and a declaration.

The guest is Mai Soon Young Oevlisen of Meejah. The declaration is the band's own description of the song: a celebration of female and queer communities lifting each other up in a world of adversity, and burning down every deep rooted threat to their existence. Death doom bands rarely say out loud who a song is for, which makes this one easier to hear correctly.

The music matches the claim rather than softening it. The four of them still open the pitch black spaces the first two albums were built from, then let clean passages come through the weight, which is the versatility Metal Underground points to in the writing around the release.

Five songs is the whole record, and they run longer than anything the band has released before. The black metal the band has been folding into the death doom is a large part of why: those tempos need room, and a thirty minute album of five riffs would have sounded like a compromise.

Behind them is a year of touring with Zeal and Ardor and sets at Wacken and Copenhell, which is the kind of run that changes what a band believes it can get away with on record.
