Lacuna Coil have released "Fragile XX", a new version of the song from Karmacode, twenty years after that album, alongside a SWARM remix of "I Wish You Were Dead" from Sleepless Empire.
Pairing the two is the point. One song is two decades old and the other came out last year, and putting them on the same release is a band drawing a line between the record that made them an arena name in Europe and the one they are touring now.
Karmacode was the album that took the band beyond the gothic metal audience, mostly on the strength of "Our Truth" and a cover of "Enjoy the Silence", and "Fragile" was the song underneath those two that the audience kept.
Re-recording a song for an anniversary usually flatters the original rather than replacing it, and the band have been careful to frame this as a new version rather than a definitive one.
