Les Chants de Nihil have put up a second song from Graines, which comes out on 6 November. It is called "Graines: L'impregnation".
The naming tells you what kind of record this is. A title track broken into parts, each one a stage of the same process, is the shape French black metal has used for the long form since the middle of the 2000s, and this band have been working that way since 2007.
Five albums stand behind this one out of nine releases, which for a style where splits and demos outnumber albums three to one is a steady output rather than a prolific one.
What the French school does differently is the voice: closer to recitation than to screaming, a text being delivered rather than a throat being used. The lyrics are in French and the band have never pretended otherwise, which has kept them smaller abroad and more interesting at home.
