Maceration have released Lycanthropic Carnage, the third song out from Mercy to the Miserable, which Emanzipation Productions issue on 20 November.
The subject is the oldest one in horror. A man becomes the thing that hunts him, and the words follow that change from one side of it to the other, taken from the werewolf films the band grew up on. The music underneath it is the band's usual mixture, old school death metal with traditional heavy metal riffing pushed through it, blast beats where they fit and a melodic hook that survives them. No Clean Singing had it first on 4 November.
It follows the title track and The Fall of Virtue, so three of the record is now audible, which is a generous share for an album still two weeks away.
The change behind the desk is the part worth noting. Dan Swano mixed their last two records and does not mix this one. Lawrence Mackrory of Rory Sound does, a name attached to Paradise Lost, Bloodbath, Meshuggah, Vomitory and Lik. Guitarist Jakob Schultz is careful to say that nothing was wrong with Swano's work and that they simply wanted a different pair of ears.
