Metallica have released a filmed Battery from the Sphere in Las Vegas, recorded on 15 October during the Life Burns Faster residency.

The song is the opening track of Master of Puppets from 1986, and it also opened the first night of this residency on 1 October. That was the first time since 2014 that the band had begun a concert with it, which for a group whose setlists are studied like scripture counted as news on its own.

These films have become the residency's second product. Lux Aeterna, Welcome Home Sanitarium and Leper Messiah have all gone up the same way, each shot inside a production built for the one room and for nowhere else. The No Repeat Weekend rule, which keeps paired concerts from sharing songs, is what keeps supplying new material to film.

The residency resumes on 5 November and is booked into next spring, with 13 March the last date currently on the venue calendar.

Battery was written to be played in clubs by a band that had not yet filled one. It is now a closing argument for a screen that wraps around sixteen thousand people.
