Metallica opened their Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Thursday 1 October. The first night ran Battery, Creeping Death, Now That We're Dead, Sad But True, The Shortest Straw, Wherever I May Roam, The Day That Never Comes, ...And Justice For All, the Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo doodle, Nothing Else Matters, The Call Of Ktulu, Lux Aeterna, Ride The Lightning, The Memory Remains, Seek and Destroy and Master Of Puppets.
The structure is the part worth noting. Twenty four shows between 1 October and 13 March, with Thursday and Saturday performances carrying different setlists, which turns a residency into two parallel shows rather than one repeated twenty four times. That is also why the booking grew: eight October dates were announced first, then 5 and 7 November, 28 and 30 January, six nights in February and four more in March.
A venue built around a wraparound screen has obvious uses for a band with this much visual archive, and running two sets means the second one has to justify a second ticket.
