Midnight release Satanic Attack Live! on 6 November through Metal Blade, and the first thing out of it is "Violence On Violence", recorded in front of a Los Angeles crowd.
A live album from this band makes more sense than a live album from most. Athenar records the studio albums essentially alone, playing everything, so the live version is the only place the songs exist as a band playing them, with three other people and a room reacting.
What that does to the material is the thing worth hearing. The studio records are deliberately thin and nasty, and a stage adds exactly the weight that the production keeps out, which usually either ruins a song like this or finishes it.
Cleveland, twenty three years, seventeen entries in the discography and no interest whatsoever in sounding better than they do. The visualizer is the only promotion the record appears to need.
