Fear Factory frontman Milo Silvestro told Impact Metal Channel that the band's next album should run to ten songs and arrive next year, after Roboticist, his first release with the band, came out in late August through Nuclear Blast.
The question he gets asked is why he sings so much like Burton C. Bell, and he answered it without defending himself. "I tried to sound as much as possible like the original vocalist, Burton C. Bell, because I think that this band, to me, as a fan of the band also, it couldn't sound any different, because Burt has been such an iconic vocalist. He was the pioneer of the combined style of harsh vocals and melodic vocals."
Then the detail that reframes it. "One of the reasons why Dino got interested in me as a vocalist, it's because I was so influenced by Burton C. Bell vocally that it already came natural to me to sound like him. It's not even that I tried to sound like him; it just comes natural. But when I got hired in Fear Factory, I studied his style, his sound, his nuances even more." In other words the resemblance came first and the job followed, not the other way round.
On the record he said the band stayed deliberately inside the existing sound: "To me, it has a lot of Mechanize, Genexus, The Industrialist kind of vibe. But there is some modern and innovative or fresh elements as well here and there." He and drummer Pete Webber had been in the touring line-up for almost three and a half years before Roboticist, which is how the live version of this band already works. That touring has not been without incident.
