Morbid Intent have released Marionettes, a five song EP, through Inverse Records, who have put the whole thing up to stream along with videos for two of the tracks.
The songs are "The Night Draws Near", "Ashen Veil", "The Manipulation Doctrine", the title track and "Vitriol Shards", and the titles alone tell you which half of Finnish melodic death metal this band came up in: the dark, deliberate side rather than the one that writes choruses.
They come from Oulu, which has produced more extreme metal per head than almost anywhere in the country, and they still have no full length album. Three releases in, an EP that the label streams in full on the day is a band being pushed rather than a band being filed, and Inverse have a long record of doing exactly that for Finnish acts nobody abroad has heard of yet.
Two of the five, "Ashen Veil" and "Vitriol Shards", have official videos. No album has been announced.
