Mother Of Graves have a new song, "A Terrible Famine of Words", and the only way to own it is a deluxe Decibel subscription taken out before 31 October.
The Flexi Series has run for over a decade on that bargain: a magazine gets an exclusive recording, a band gets in front of a subscriber base that buys records, and the song exists on a thin plastic disc that most people will rip once and never play again. For a doom death band from Indianapolis it is a better deal than it sounds, because the people who still subscribe to a metal magazine are precisely the people who buy doom.
The band's year has already had an album in it. A song went out ahead of a record dated for 16 October, which makes this an offcut rather than a campaign.
What they do is the slow, melodic end of death doom, closer to early Katatonia than to anything funereal, and the format suits a single song far better than a whole album of it would.
