Mothertomb have signed to Ripple Music, three months after releasing their first album.

Dying To Live came out in July through Death Box Records. Signing to a new label that quickly after a debut usually means one of two things: the record moved more copies than anyone expected, or somebody at the new label heard it early and moved fast. Either way it is a short apprenticeship for a band that only formed in 2023.

Ripple is the reason it matters. The Californian label has become the most reliable address in American doom and stoner for bands at exactly this stage, with a distribution reach that a one album group out of northern Michigan has no other way of buying.

Nothing has been announced about a second record. Three releases stand behind them in total, one of them the album.

The move also says something about where the money is in doom right now. A style that sells almost nothing to radio sells a great deal on vinyl, and a label that understands that is worth more to a young band than an advance would be.
