Myrkur has released "Broken Little Doll" as a digital single through Relapse, with Katrine Stenbekk of Kalandra singing on it.
The credits are the story. Amalie Bruun wrote the music and the words, played every instrument, sang, and then shot and edited the video herself. Fieke Van den Hurk mixed and mastered it. The only other people on the list are Stenbekk and two ballerinas, Iris Johansson and Sarah Kirstein Junge.
It was filmed with the help of Gentofte Church, which is the kind of room this music has always wanted and almost never gets. Her work has moved between black metal, Nordic folk and something closer to chamber music for a decade now, and the arguments about whether that is still metal have long since stopped being interesting.
Two voices and a pair of dancers, built by one person, released by a label that spent the 1990s putting out grindcore. Nothing about that would have been predictable in either direction.
