Mystic Prophecy have released "Angels Are Falling" from In Metal, their fourteenth album, through Reigning Phoenix Music.
The title was announced without any explanation attached to it, which for this band is in character. Twenty five years in, R.D. Liapakis has run Mystic Prophecy on the principle that the genre name is the whole statement, and a fourteenth album called In Metal is that principle at its most literal.
What they do has moved very little in that time: German power metal with the thrash edge left in, closer to Primal Fear than to the symphonic end of the genre, and built around a voice rather than around keyboards.
A lyric film rather than a full video is the cheap option, and for a band that releases this often it is also the sensible one. The song is the second thing made public from the record.
Reigning Phoenix have become the German address for exactly this kind of band, the ones with a dozen albums and a touring circuit that does not need a hit, and a fourteenth record is not a comeback or a reinvention. It is a band doing the next one.
