Narcotic Wasteland have a new video, Fentanyl Zombie Apocalypse, premiered by Decibel. The band is Dallas Toler-Wade's, which is the first thing to say about them: he spent twenty years playing guitar and singing in Nile.

The second thing is the subject. This band has written about drugs since it started in 2011, and not in the way death metal usually does. The titles are clinical rather than celebratory, and the position is consistently against. A song named after the fentanyl crisis is the band doing exactly what it exists to do.

Which is also why a Decibel premiere is the right place for it. A video there reaches precisely the audience that knows where Toler-Wade came from and has been waiting to hear what he does with the band he left Nile for.

What has not changed is the playing. Nile's technical standard was his standard, and Narcotic Wasteland has kept it while writing about something a good deal more ordinary and more frightening than Egypt.
