Necropanther have released The Thing From Another World, from The Book Of Change, their fifth album, out on 13 November.
The record is about transformation and the band have been specific about where they took it from: The Tempest, The Thing, The Fly, Faust and the arcade game Rampage. That is a reading list and a misspent youth in the same sentence, and it holds together better than it sounds, because every one of those stories is about a body or a bargain going wrong.
Joe Johnson describes the song as lean blackened thrash with an orchestrated passage in the middle, where he and Paul Anop play a harmony before the solo. "We love Thin Lizzy and Helloween influenced melodic metal, so that moment of harmony feels great," he said.
On the creature at the centre of it he is blunter. "You called down the thunder, now you've got it."
The band produced the album themselves in Denver, where they formed in 2014, with Felipe Patino engineering at Green Door Recordings.
