A Finnish zither is not the obvious instrument for a song about shared psychosis, which is rather the point. Numento have released Folie a Deux, the fourth single from an EP due later this year.
The title means madness of two. The band describe the song as a true crime story of tragic love built on control and lies, written from two perspectives at once, and say the psychosis in it is wound so far into both identities that getting out would mean destroying the self. It opens like a dark waltz led by the kantele, which has been the band's signature instrument throughout, moves into guitar melodies and finishes in black metal influenced passages and dissonant harmonies.
Katri Hiovain-Asikainen sings and plays the kantele. Christian Herrle and Atte Asikainen produced the track, Herrle mixed it, and Thomas Feilner mastered it at Soundation Studio Mastering. The band formed in Helsinki in 2004.
