Obsidian Church Skipped the Demo and Made the Album Instead

Obsidian Church have put out "Specter of Despair", the second song from Stonebound, which Dying Victims Productions press on 20 November. The album already exists: the band released it themselves in digital form earlier this year.

That is the part worth stopping on. Formed in early 2024, split between Palermo and Messina, they did not record a demo and shop it around. They made the whole record, put it out, and the label came to them afterwards and arranged the first physical edition. For a band two years old working in epic doom, a genre with roughly no commercial floor, it is a reasonable bet and this time it paid.

"Specter of Despair" runs just under five minutes, which makes it one of the short ones here; "The Great Circle of Summoning" is nearly nine. Six songs, about thirty seven minutes, and the writing leans on the two guitars of Sara Scavo and Giada Seidita rather than on volume.

Drummer Antonio La Camera produced it. The vinyl comes in black and in an ochre pressing with an insert, poster, sticker, postcard and patch, which is Dying Victims doing what Dying Victims does.
