Opeth will take what their bassist calls a pretty long break when their Latin American tour finishes on 11 November in Mexico City.

Martin Mendez said so to the Brazilian station 89 A Radio Rock, asked what audiences should expect from the run that began on 1 November in Santiago. He described a full headline set, longer than the last time the band came through the region as a support act, and then added the part that travels: this is the last run for this album, so after this one, we will take a pretty long break.

Asked whether the break was for resting or for writing, he said both, in that order. I think we need to relax first, and then recover, get some new energy, and then start thinking about new music.

Nothing in that is a retirement, and it is worth saying so plainly, because a band of this age saying the word break tends to be read as one. This is a group that has released thirteen albums since 1995 and has spent the last two years on the road behind the most recent of them.

The tour has eight dates left.
