Orbit Culture have put out a new version of The Path I Walk with the cellist Tina Guo on it, with a video by Riivata Visuals. It belongs to the deluxe edition of Death Above Life.
The idea is old. The band saw Guo play in Stockholm in 2017 and talked then about working with her, and nothing came of it for nine years, until the label went looking for a guest for this particular song and the band produced the name they had been carrying. The contact was made through the A&R man, which is what a label is for.
How it was built is the interesting part. The cello parts were first written with MIDI and with samples from Guo's own sample library, so the arrangement existed before she played a note of it. Her recording replaced the model.
The deluxe edition carries three songs nobody has heard, Nuclear God, Spiral Head and The Form Not Meant To Be, and comes as a 2LP artbook and a 2CD mediabook with forty pages of unreleased photographs. The band go out behind it supporting Trivium, with In Flames and Frozen Soul on the same bill.
