Ovate release Ruin tomorrow, 6 November, through Soulseller Records, with a different guest on each of its six songs.
The track list carries the idea on its face. Kutsumus is Finnish, Risset testament and Omveltning and Livsblot are Norwegian, El clam del foc is Catalan, and Slangen closes it. A black metal record built on six borrowed voices across four languages is an unusual structure for a genre that treats a singer as the band's identity.
Slangen came out first, with Hoest on it, which set the standard for the rest.
Eight years is a long time between records even in this corner, and doing the comeback as a series of collaborations rather than a solo statement is the opposite of what most bands reach for. Soulseller have been releasing Norwegian black metal for two decades and rarely take a record built this way, which is its own kind of endorsement.
