Patriarchs in Black have released No More Blood, the first piece of To Serve Man, out on 8 January through Metalville.
Dan Lorenzo describes writing it backwards from where most people start: the bassline first, then the chorus arriving whole, lyrics and melody at once, while he was reading a book about Patton and picturing D-Day as the opening of Saving Private Ryan. He put down scratch vocals before Johnny Kelly recorded the drums, kept a sliver of his own chorus and handed the rest to Jeff Dixon, Sarah Sovak and Joe Ferrara.
That is how this band works. Lorenzo, of Hades and Non-Fiction, and Kelly, formerly of Type O Negative and Danzig, started it at the end of 2021, and each track comes with its own singer rather than a fixed frontman, with Mark Sunshine, Dixon and Ferrara spread across the record. It makes the albums read like compilations of one band's songs, which is an unusual thing to choose on purpose and has worked for four of them now.
