Queensrÿche have described their next album as sounding like their two most admired records, and have said it is the last one owed to Century Media.
"The new stuff sounds like old school Rage For Order and The Warning," Todd La Torre said on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk. That is a large claim for any band to make about itself, and it is the second and third albums of a catalogue that reaches back to 1984.
The writing is being done in small groups rather than together. Mike Stone and Michael Wilton have gone to producer Zeuss for week long sessions, in pairs. "When everybody's involved it's nice and it's fair and it's great, but it can stump things because everyone has 10 ideas," La Torre said. "And that can be counterproductive."
His own part, the melodies and the words, is still mostly ahead of him, and the band have asked their booking agents for wider gaps between shows so the record can move.
Wilton said it will complete the existing deal with Century Media. He named no label for whatever comes after. There is no title and no date.
