Chuck Billy of Testament publishes his memoir on 10 November. It is called Holding My Breath: The Two Testaments Of Chuck Billy, it comes out through Permuted Press, and the two names on either end of it are worth noting: Rob Halford of Judas Priest wrote the foreword, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God the afterword.
That is two generations of singers bracketing a third. The subtitle is doing work too. Billy was diagnosed with cancer in 2001 and came through it, and the two testaments of the title are the obvious reading.
Three events are booked around the book. On 29 October he is at Changing Hands, a bookstore and bar in Phoenix. On 10 November, publication day, he is in Seal Beach with Jose Mangin and the comedian Brian Posehn. On 14 November he is at the Metal Community Bar in Dublin, California, with Phil and Marta Demmel and Posehn again.
Metal memoirs usually get a signing table at a record shop. A bookstore, a bar and a room full of other musicians is a different kind of launch.
