Rosetta have released Self-Dealing Position, from Temporal Lapse, the album they are calling their last, out on 27 November through Pelagic Records.

Matt Weed has explained what happened to it in between, and it is the most honest account of a delayed record you will read this year. The band started in late 2019 meaning to write about climate change, and found themselves drawn to the grief inside it, the human experience of loss as nature gives way to something else. Then the pandemic stopped everything for years.

By the time they came back, the subject had changed sides. I lost my house to a fire in 2022, Weed says. Eric and I both lost our dads. Rather than looking at climate change through the lens of grief and loss, we ended up looking at personal grief and loss through the imagery of climate change and apocalypse.

The record was made across several years and several places, with the drums cut over a week in a 1920s stone church outside Philadelphia. A third behind the scenes film came out with the song.

Seven albums in twenty years, and the last one took six of them.
