Roy Khan is touring The Black Halo across Latin America twenty one years after he sang it, and he is straightforward about what that costs. Some of the Kamelot songs come down a step.

"You can't really hear it," he told El Cuartel Del Metal. "What we do with the songs is we take some of them down one or two half steps, depending on how tricky they are for me to sing these days. And then it's like being back when my voice, my register was a little bit higher."

He says the change has not altered how he writes, because he stopped chasing the top of his range long before his range moved. "I haven't really gone for the really, really high stuff since way back with Conception. On Flow, for example, the last album we did in the nineties, there were no really super high vocals. I just naturally came to the conclusion that my voice sounded better in a slightly lower range."

A first solo album is tentatively due in 2027, produced by Sascha Paeth, who built the sound of The Fourth Legacy, Karma, Epica and The Black Halo. Caio Kehyayan of Firewing and Adrienne Cowan of Seven Spires are co-producing and writing, with Bill Hudson contributing.
