Sanctuarium release Impetuous Behest for Detestable Expulsion on 4 December, their third album in four years, through Dark Descent and Me Saco un Ojo. "Pendulous Lacerations" is up now.
The shape of the record is the news. Thirty five minutes, six entries on the tracklist, and two of those are an intro and an outro, which leaves four actual songs carrying the whole thing. Nobody builds a cavernous death metal album that way by accident. It means the slow passages get room to sit rather than being cut for pace, and it means a listener who bails after eight minutes has heard one song.
"Pendulous Lacerations" is the second track and runs six minutes and seventeen seconds, which makes it one of the shorter ones. Doom tempo guitars, drums pushed well forward, the Spanish school of death metal that has been quietly good for a decade now.
The Catalans put out Into the Mephitic Abyss in 2023 and Melted and Decomposed in 2024, so this is a third album in four years from a band that started with a demo in 2021.
