Sanctus Nosferatu have released "Axioma", the second song of a run that began with "1.E4", and the two titles together explain what they are doing. 1.e4 is the first move of a chess game, used here as a figure for manipulation and control, and the cycle follows from it.
The character is Samca, who gave their 2012 debut its name, and the new song puts him back in a loop of obsession and violence in which it stops being clear which of the two people involved is hunting the other. Reusing a character fourteen years later is a long game for a band working this far from anywhere.
Far is the word. They formed in 2002 on Sao Miguel, in the Azores, a thousand miles into the Atlantic, and have kept a thrash, death and black metal hybrid going there since, with Jota Fortinho now singing and Nuno Carreiro writing the words.
Tiago Alves mixed and mastered it at Waveyard. The visuals are the band's own work, which at this scale usually means they are the only option.
