Scalding's debut Exordium has reached vinyl, four years after it appeared as a download, through an expanded reissue on Hypaethral Records.

The editions are small: two hundred copies of a graphite ECO vinyl and two hundred of a pressed CD. Both carry a ten track version, with "Skull Collapse" and an acoustic reading of "Exordium" added at the end. Those two songs made up the EP the band released in September 2023.

"It felt like we truly created something special out of nothing," said SM, who plays guitar and sings, looking back at songs written in lockdown in 2020 and the first shows in 2022. "This is the perfect encapsulation of Scalding's first chapter."

The band started in Vancouver in 2021 and take from Scandinavian second wave black metal, death metal, crust and traditional heavy metal in roughly that order. A debut reaching physical format on its fourth birthday is the ordinary timeline for a band at this level, and two hundred copies is the ordinary number.
