Sea Sleeper are streaming Burden of Antlers in full through Decibel, three days before the record comes out on 18 September. They are releasing it themselves.
Eight songs, and the band describe the writing of them with a line that doubles as a warning: "There's a fine line between ambition and poor decision-making. Most of this album was written somewhere in between." What that sounds like is death metal with progressive, noisy and atonal parts fitted into it, and melody where the last thing you expect is melody.
They come from Portland, Oregon, and started in 2019. Jesse Cooley sings and plays guitar and produced, mixed and mastered the album at Sleeping Studio; Shane Cooley plays drums, Nick Kessler bass and Tony Spradlin lead guitar, and all four sing. Nostophobia, in 2021, was the only album before this one.
