Eleven albums since 2014 is a rate almost nobody in symphonic metal keeps. Secret Rule have released a video for Someone Killed the Pope, the title track of their eleventh, which Rockshots Records put out on 5 February 2027.

It follows Edge of Control and goes further into metalcore than the band have before, with a breakdown at its centre and the orchestral and electronic layers kept around it rather than on top. Guitarist Andy Menario wrote and produced it.

Singer Angela Di Vincenzo went to the title directly. "The title is deliberately provocative, but the song isn't really about killing the Pope," she said. "For me, he represents something deeply rooted in our society, something people see as almost untouchable. The song is about what happens when those certainties begin to collapse." She then pointed at the second verse: "They can try to destroy one voice, but another will rise, and then another." That, she said, is what turns the line "And I think it was me" from a confession into something else.

The band formed in Rome in 2014.
