Secret Rule have released Trip Into My Hell from Someone Killed the Pope, their eleventh album, which Rockshots Records issue on 5 February.
The footage comes from the European tour they have just finished with Xandria and Seven Spires, which is a sensible way to shoot a song they were already performing nightly. Angela Di Vincenzo says they played it every evening of that run, and that the hell the title refers to is personal rather than theatrical.
Musically it sits further from the band's recent work than the singles that came before it. Andy Menario, who plays guitar and produces, says they wanted this one direct, and the result leans on plain riffing and the rhythm section rather than on the electronics that coloured the earlier previews from the record.
Eleven albums in twelve years is a rate almost nobody in symphonic metal keeps up, and the band have done it from Rome with Menario at the centre of it since 2014. Someone Killed the Pope arrives in February.
