Shakhtyor have put out "Alone", the second song from Simulacron, which Moment of Collapse release on 6 November. The band are instrumental and have been since 2009, so the detail that matters is that there is a voice on it, contributed by members of UR.
That is not a small decision for a trio whose whole method is to make the guitars say it. The song is about what being online does to a person. "Before long, we will lose the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, reality and fantasy and pleasure and pain," they say of it, which is the kind of statement that is easier to carry with words than without them.
Simulacron is their third album, after the self titled debut and Tunguska in 2015, which makes this an eleven year gap filled by one single. They describe the writing as tighter than before, though songs over ten minutes are still normal here.
The method has not changed: riff walls, then a long stoic groove that repeats until it stops meaning anything, then an eruption. Pressure through dynamics rather than speed.
