Sharon Osbourne has said that Megadeth were the band they wanted and did not get for Back To The Beginning. "We really, really wanted Megadeth," she told Rolling Stone, in an interview published as the film of the show gets its world premiere on Wednesday at the Orpheum in Los Angeles.
The bill that did play was about as complete a gathering of the genre as anyone has assembled, which is what makes an admission of a gap interesting rather than trivial. Megadeth were on their own farewell run through that period, and Dave Mustaine had a book of his own out; the practical reasons were not in short supply.
The premiere is a purple carpet event rather than a screening, and the film reaches ordinary cinemas on 28 October, seventeen days after the concert was filmed and shortly before Osbourne died.
What she is describing is a line up decided in weeks rather than months, by a family working around a man who could barely stand. Under that constraint, one absent band is a small thing.
