Sinister have put out "The Strangulation", the first song from Lucid Nightmares, which Massacre Records release on 13 November. It is the fifteenth album.
Fifteen is a number that usually means a band has stopped arguing with itself, and the pitch here is exactly that: no reinvention, just the two versions of this band placed side by side. "This track is 100% pure Sinister," said Adrie Kloosterwaard. "We've fused the raw energy of our early days with the crushing power of modern Sinister. Expect nothing less than the signature brutality, relentless speed, and unforgettable song hooks that define our sound."
The word doing the work in that sentence is hooks. Sinister have always written death metal with recognisable song shapes rather than endless riff sequences, which is why the Dutch records from the early nineties still get played and why a fifteenth album from them is not automatically a formality.
Ten tracks, with "The Strangulation" sixth. Erwin Hermsen produced, mixed and mastered it at Toneshed Music Production, Noah Zarc painted the cover and Roberto Toderico did the layout. Massacre have it on CD digipak, on limited coloured vinyl and digitally.
