Soilwork have released "Night Whispers & Shining Lights" while they are in the middle of a European tour, in the year the band turn thirty.
The tour is with Amon Amarth and Orbit Culture, which is a bill built across three generations of Swedish metal, and releasing a song halfway through it means the audience gets to hear it live before most of them have heard it at all.
Thirty years puts the band's beginning in 1995, when the Gothenburg sound was being codified around them rather than by them, and what Soilwork did with it afterwards is the reason the term melodic death metal stopped meaning only three bands. The choruses they write have always been the dividing line.
Nothing has been said about an album. A single released into an anniversary year, with the band already on stage every night, reads like a thank you rather than the start of a campaign.
