Somnent have put out "King of Ruin", the last advance single from Heirloom, which Ardua Music release on 30 October. It arrives as a lyric video filmed and edited by Radiana Piț.
The album is the third from the band, and the one where the song titles name the damage rather than circle it: a record about what a family can do to a person and what it costs to walk away from one. That is a lot to hand to a death doom band, and it is also exactly the material death doom was built to carry.
Putting the last piece out as a lyric video rather than a filmed one is a decision in keeping with all of that. Nobody is being shown anything. The words sit on the screen and the song has to do the rest of the work, which in this genre is usually the point.
Two weeks remain before the album is whole. Until then the advance singles are the only part of it anyone has, and "King of Ruin" is where that run stops.
